Changing With The Times Satellite TV Has As Much To Offer As Cable

Every season a handful of new shows are unveiled on to American television audiences in hopes that they will make them laugh, cry, or, in some special cases, both.  Writers, producers, actors and directors put their time, energy and names on the line in hopes of being able to say that they are part of a successful program, providing them with a job and a paycheck for an extended period of time.  Any actor who has been part of a sitcom or television drama for a dozen seasons will tell you just how great it is being part of a single project for such a long while.  However, as much as the professionals in the industry hope and wish and work toward this sort of stardom, it is actually the audiences, the general television watching public, that have all the power.  Your opinion as a viewer will dictate the longevity and eventual success of most every program trying to break into mainstream rotation.  Television ratings are built off of how many people tune into a show week in and week out, and ratings are a huge measuring stick toward the overall impression a show makes on the public.  This impression will ultimately dictate whether or not the show stays on the air.

Some shows are run on basic cable channels, allowing everybody to see them, broadening the general audience that is able to sample any type of new program.  However, other shows are only available through satellite TV, thereby limiting the number of people who can tune in on a regular basis.  However, satellite TV is becoming more and more popular, and more and more households in America are switching over from a cable setup to a satellite TV one.  As a result, more time and attention is being paid toward channels that are only available on a satellite setup, as more and more people continue to make the switch.

While this does not directly impact the actors and the directors trying to make it big with a hit television series, it does change the way in which they approach potential jobs and gigs.  It used to be understood that if a basic cable network pitched you a show, you pounced on the opportunity.  However, with more people signing up for satellite TV, there are more shows being produced specifically for satellite TV audiences.  As a result, shows that are only available on a satellite setup are gaining credibility in the ultra-competitive industry.

While the entertainment industry is one grounded and rooted in history and tradition, it must also change with the times so as to stay on top of current trends and changing environments.  As more people go from cable users to satellite users, the television industry is changing to reflect the transition.  As a result, the most popular shows may soon be based on satellite networks, changing everything you once knew about the television industry as a whole.
