Television Content Filtering Possible through an HD Satellite Receiver

An HD satellite receiver is necessary to deliver high definition programming to a high definition TV set. What many are unaware of, though, is that HD satellite receivers may also be used to filter the content displayed on TV sets. For units that boast this function, preventing kids from accessing programming of mature nature is a breeze. Depending on the service and technology provider, parental control and system locks through the receiver may be activated at no additional charges.

Locking channels often only takes a few presses on the TV's remote control to achieve. Users simply have to browse through their programming menu, and choose to lock the movie and pay per view channels, and even local channels that they deem have inappropriate content for the younger members of their family. After choosing the channels, they may set a password to ensure that they are the only ones that have control over the newly changed settings.

This feature is not only useful for blocking inappropriate content, but it can be used to moderate TV time during the school week by blocking kids channels until they finish their homework and chores.

Also contingent upon the features available on the HD satellite receiver, the locking of channels may also be based on ratings provided by the Motion Picture Association of America. Parents have the option of setting additional content filters based on language, violence, nudity, and sexual content ratings.

With the advanced content filtering functions of HD satellite receivers, parents may rest assured that their kids won't accidently run into content that is not appropriate for their age.
