Why Sports Bars use Satellite

Anyone who enjoys catching the game down at their local tavern is likely well aware that bars almost always use satellite television services. The reasons behind this flow from the business design of these companies and explain a great deal of their growth over the past decade. While cable has attempted to expand its offerings to compete, taverns'and serious home viewers'tend to gravitate toward the satellite services for several different reasons.

The satellite television services were the first to adopt high-definition programming to a great extent and especially emphasized sports broadcasts in this format. Those who don't have high-definition television will readily notice the difference when they see it. For an example, all one needs to do is walk through any electronics or department store to see the display televisions. The picture is incredibly crisp and the increase in quality is apparent without having it pointed out to the viewer. Using this format for sports allows the action in the game to be followed much more closely. Because the picture is so sharp, the movement of the athletes during game play is also far more engaging than it was on a regular analog set.

Satellite television services are inherently digital which means they've always had digital quality sound. In a noisy tavern, this allows the sound to be very loud without distortion or static caused by low quality signal or, in the case of an antenna, from plain old interference. Being heard above the chatter is a large part of the reason satellite is so practical for a bar but, for the home viewer, it simply means a more engaging game. While sporting events do tend to be loud on television, high quality audio means that one can turn down the volume to a more pleasant level and still enjoy enough clarity to follow the announcers.

Satellite also based a great deal of its business model around offering a lot of programming for a lower price than its competition. For sports viewers, there are also features included that let them follow the entire season of a particular sport. This has obvious home-viewing appeal but, for a bar, there's an obvious advantage here. Many sports bars are themed toward a particular team. This packaging feature allows the proprietors of those taverns to always have the team their patrons love on the screen which, of course, means more traffic and more sales.

If one were to spend an afternoon exploring a few sports bars, it would become readily obvious that satellite is the preferred service in these venues. While all the stated advantages are greatly responsible for this, there is still another: Satellite broadcasts more non-major events than its competitors. This means that cage fighting, golf, horse racing and other sports which are very popular but not on the level of football or baseball are readily available. For the tavern owners, this means that there are events which can be advertised, even in the off season.
